How to Win Over a Group Interview and DIY crafts

As a person who’s been on what seems like a thousand interviews, I would say that I’ve picked up on a ton of things that could be useful for your next group interview! Or really any interview!

1. Remember to bring a copy of your resume — I can’ tell you how many times that I’ve been on a group interview where not one person brought their resume with them. Even if you handed your resume in with your application (online or in person) you still should bring a copy with you. It’ll keep you a step above everyone because you’ll have a reason to talk to the hiring manager afterward and he or she WILL remember you that way. Also, it makes the applicants look unprepared.

2. Have good posture — Nothing is more important than standing up straight, especially when you’re trying to make a good first impression on your future manager.

3. Dress the part — Usually at a job interview you’d wear all black or black and white. But it really depends on the company that you’re applying for. For example, if you’re applying for a job at Francesca’s, wear all statement accessories with a black dress and heels!

4. Research the company before — You need to be able to speak effortlessly as if you sleep, eat, and breathe the company. An employer wants to hire someone who has passion for the company and knows exactly what they are talking about!

5. Don’t talk too fast or too much — If you’re one to do either when you’re nervous, make sure you practice what you say in your head if you have time, even if it’s just for a second. Say exactly what you need to say in a cool, calm, and collected manner. It can be challenging at times with several eyes on you, but it will make you shine out of all other applicants.

6. Offer to go first — This is a test that several hiring managers are taught to do. They want to see who isn’t afraid to step up and be challenged without you having to tell them that you possess either of those qualities! Plus, that means that you won’t be able to copy anyone else’s answers.

7. Don’t use slang or jargon — No “like”, “um”, or “ya know?” It makes you look unprofessional. No matter how comfortable you are in the interview, do not talk with slang. Be as professional as possible with your talking.

8. Ask questions — If you ask questions, it’ll make you look like you genuinely are interested in the job. The more curious you are, the better! Plus, not many think to ask questions on an interview. People think the interviewer is the only one to ask questions. This will set you apart from the rest!

9. Smile and laugh — If you’re in a good mood, the hiring manager will be aware of that. It will definitely leave a good impression! But make sure you’re not cracking jokes or acting goofy, then you’ll come off as immature. So, remember to know the difference!

10. Stay calm — Don’t stress or worry too much. If you think about it, interviews really only last about 15 minutes on average, even though it can feel like 15 years. There’s no reason for you to over think anything. So go in there and win over that interview!

Many employers know that interviewing isn’t really an easy thing to do, no matter how much experience you have. It’s okay to be nervous, but as long as you follow these steps, you’ll definitely land the job! Good luck and happy styling! xoxo
