Lactation Lament

Sleep loss? No problem.  Less free time? Not too hard of an adjustment.  Breastfeeding? The most difficult thing I’ve done in my life, and I get on stage to act in front of judgmental audiences for a hobby.  One show I even entered doing a cartwheel and always had the lingering thought of what if I land on my head or break an arm? Breastfeeding makes that cartwheel look like a walk in the park! Thus today I want to lament on lactation, and what it has taught me.

DETERMINATION!

I’ve set a lot of goals in life. Some of them I’ve met; some of them I haven’t met. I thought these taught me grit and determination. Wrong! Do you know what teaches determination? A stubborn baby with an equally stubborn mama!

Lil Kisby was very energy efficient (the PC way to say lazy) when it came to nursing. Instead of latching, he felt the best way to eat was either from a syringe or a bottle especially the one that was leaky. He was born late May 20, and he decided to latch on June 7. For those counting that was 19 days!

In addition to him not latching, my milk production was around 50% of what it should be. Now a baby can’t just eat 50% of the time! Unlike mama, he doesn’t have extra fluff to lose. What did this mean? A strict regimen of nurse, supplement, pump and repeat every three hours. Yesterday – July 30 – he finally made it through a day with no formula supplementation because he was able to get full on breastmilk! 72 days after birth!

Now I get what determination means!

Supply, Supply, Supply

When your supply is low, you will do just about anything to help increase it. At least you will if you’re me. Seriously, if the lactation consultant had told me to stand on my head 7 hours a day to increase my supply, then I would have found a way to stand on my head 7 hours a day. Thankfully, that wasn’t recommended, but here are somethings I’ve tried!

Motherlove More Milk Special Blend – I’ve used the liquid and capsule forms. Both smell terrible and taste like they smell, but they were the number one recommendation. So my breath my smell like an herb garden, but if it helps then it is worth it!

Hot Tea – I’ve drank raspberry tea and Mother’s Milk tea. I don’t know how much they are helping, but they’ve turned me into a hot tea drinker. They are both decaf, and I find them to be relaxing before bedtime. Give me my tea and a book, and I’ll sleep like a baby!

Lactation Cookies – I bought some, then I found a recipe via Google to make my own. Store bought cookies were good, but mine are great because I added chocolate chips and peanut butter chips!

100 Grams of Protein Daily – This is the hardest for me as I am not a big meat or bean eater. My main sources of protein have been chicken nuggets and peanut butter with the occasional pork and hamburger. If I liked steak this would be a lot easier!

The Pink Drink – This drink is made at Starbucks and women on the Internet claimed it worked. There is no scientific evidence to support that it would help, but it tastes delicious! I’m a sucker for refreshing strawberry drinks! If it does help then cool, if not then it is $5 of tasty!

So…

So for those of you out there who have also struggled with breastfeeding, I want you to know that you are not alone! The lactation struggle is real! However, persevering through is worth it! I’d love to hear your stories of perseverance in the comments!

Now I must go make tea!

XOXO,

The Great Kaysby

Mom tip #305: World's best lactation cookies

I discovered this cookie recipe during my second pregnancy, and while I can’t say for sure that it has helped boost milk supply, I do have a lot more supply this time around than with my first, and it doesn’t hurt that these cookies are simply delicious. They are soft, not too sweet, and has a great combination of textures.

Whether you go with this cookie recipe or any other, the key to lactation cookies is brewer’s yeast. I use this one from Amazon. Brewer’s yeast can have a bit of a bitter taste, but it’s covered up well in this recipe. Oats and flaxseed also help with milk supply, supposedly, and both are in high volumes in this recipe.

World’s Best Lactation Cookies

This is a modified version of the recipe I found here. I use both all purpose and whole wheat flour, reduced the amount of sugar, and added almond flakes.

This makes about 24 large cookies. I recommend freezing them so that you can bake a couple any time you want!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup All purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Whole wheat flour
  • 5 tbsp Brewer’s yeast
  • 3 tbsp Ground flaxseed
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 3 cups Old fashioned oats
  • 16 tbsp Unsalted butter, cubed (2 sticks)
  • 4 tbsp Virgin coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 Large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup Dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup Shredded unsweetened coconut
  • 1/2 cup Almond flakes

Directions:

Preheat the oven the 350 degrees F.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, flaxseed, baking powder, soda, cinnamon and salt. Next, add in the oats and combine.

Using an electric mixer or mixing stand, gradually mix the cubed butter on low speed. Add in the coconut oil and beat on medium speed until creamy, about 1-2 minutes. Add in the sugar and beat on medium to high speed until fluffy, about 2 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl if needed. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract, beating until combined, about 2 to 3 minutes. Make sure you scrape the bowl to ensure that it is all evenly mixed.

Gradually add in the dry ingredients, beating on low speed until just combined and mixed. Stir in the chocolate chips, coconut and nuts, until combined.

Rest in fridge for 15 minutes.

Scoop the dough into 2-inch rounds, then press down slightly. Place on a baking sheet about 1 inch apart. These cookies do not spread very much, which is why is I press the rounds down slightly into the shape I would like. Bake for 10 to 14 minutes, or until the bottoms are just golden. Let cool completely before storing in a sealed container.

Notes:

  • You can adjust the ratio of butter/coconut oil, up to a 50/50 ratio.
  • You can use raisins instead of chocolate chips.
  • You can increase the brewer’s yeast and flaxseed by a tablespoon each if you wish, although you may want to add 1/4 cup sugar if you do.
  • Freeze the dough rounds on the cookie sheet before storing in a ziplock bag (this way the rounds won’t stick together).

Portia the Milk Collector

“Yeah, yeah, let Maddie do it, that’s fine,” Cass said as she stripped her shirt off in Portia’s alchemy lab. “So, you’re studying what all our milk is going to do?”

“That’s right” Portia chirped as she pulled Maddie into the lab. “I can kinda assume what yours, Alexia’s, and Heidi’s are going to do, but to be honest, I have no idea about Rose’s.”

“Brace yourself, babe.” Maddie snapped her fingers and hit Cass with the spell. In seconds, Cassandra was growing bustier, the swelling tits filling up with milk at the same time.

“Don’t make me too big, now,” the black woman teased. She moaned gently as her formerly flat chest grew larger, about the size of handfuls.

“I’m the very soul of restraint, Cass!” Maddie stuck her tongue out. “You’re only gonna be about, I dunno, head sized?”

“That should be more than enough,” Portia said as she pulled the milking rig over. The alchemist grabbed a bottle for the pump and a sharpie and hastily wrote Cass on it. “Ready?”

“I suppose,” Cass said, observing the mass of her tits, something decidedly small for Maddie’s doing- especially to her.

“Alright, here we go!” Portia had Maddie fix the pumps to Cassandra’s plump nipples and flipped the switch on.

“Oh- oh god,” Cass moaned. “Oh, fuck, this feels good.”

“It’s supposed to, babe.”

“Deep down on the inside, Cass, you’re just as much of a thot as Maddie is. I’ll let you know when you’re done.”

“I can’t believe you talked me into this, Heids,” Alexia said, sitting topless in Portia’s lab.

“Oh, shush you, it’s for science!”

Portia labeled two more bottles for the pumps. “So, you two can either drink one of my potions or let Maddie make you big and milky. I won’t judge your choice.”

The couple looked at each other. “We’ll take the potion.”

The alchemist handed them both a vial labeled Diluted essence of cow. “It won’t give you horns or anything, I promise. Now, just take a few-”

Heidi and Alexia both burped after chugging the contents of their vials. Portia’s expression neutralized. “You were only supposed to take a few sips, but okay.” In the blink of an eye, both women’s busts exploded in size, surpassing Maddie’s own pair, the thick nipples leaking creamy milk.

“Heidi, give me a hand with these, if you will?” Portia handed Heidi the pumps to her milking rig. “I can’t reach.”

After Portia turned the rigs on, Heidi and Alexia looked at each other, confused. “Why does Maddie go wild for getting milked? I don’t get it.”

“The dilute form doesn’t have any of the sensation-enhancing effects that Maddie is accustomed to,” Portia explained. “She told me her boobs are still near succubus levels of sensitivity.”

“Oof,” Heidi said. “Well, this isn’t unpleasant, I guess.”

“Now, Rosie dearest, I have no idea what your milk is going to do, so if you don’t mind, I’d like to collect a lot of it!” Portia chirped.

“Is that why Maddie is grinning like a Cheshire cat?”

“It’ll be fun, Rose!”

“Uh huh,” the blonde said. “How big are you gonna make me? Basketballs?”

“Bigger,” Maddie replied, smiling.

“Beach… balls..?”

“Bigger.”

“Yoga balls.”

“Yup! Now strip and let me get to work.”

Rose rolled her eyes and pulled her tank top off. “Fine, but you’re shrinking me back once we’re done.” She piled her shirt and bra on some clear space of Portia’s workspace. Holding up her arms, Rose waited for the influx of Maddie’s magic.

Madeline snapped her fingers and Rose was growing in moments, her handfuls quickly plumping up. As she grew, her breasts became more round and engorged, blue veins crisscrossing her skin as her boobs filled with milk.

“Hook her up, would you, Maddie?”

“Gladly! I gave her the deluxe titty treatment!”

“You- hngg- what?”

“Don’t worry about it, Rose! You’ll love it!” Maddie secured the first pump around one of Rose’s nipples and followed quickly with the second. Making sure there were no kinks in the tubing, Madeline walked over to the machine and flipped it on. She eagerly turned back to see Rose’s face contorted in bliss, her breasts still growing larger as pale white milk flowed through the tubing. Around the size of volleyballs, Rose gently held her boobs in her hands, reluctant to start working them.

Maddie waltzed over and palmed Rose’s growing tits. “It’s okay, Rose, enjoy yourself,” she purred into Rose’s ear. Giving her a gentle squeeze, Rose moaned openly as the flow of her milk picked up as the face-witch began to fondle herself, squeezing the mounting flesh with her hands and arms. As the weight on her chest increased, Maddie and Portia guided Rose over to a table and rested her boobs on top of it. Rose leaned into her bust, mouth hanging open in pleasure as her body weight pushed her milk out faster.

“I think she’s about done growing, so I’m gonna cut off the milk production. She should be able to fill up the tank you have here!”
