Tissue paper tassel garland DIY and DIY crafts

A while back I told you how I had started a new job. When I first got to my desk I had two thoughts: 1. killer view; 2. I need to do something about these beige walls. Being the weirdo that I am, one of the first things I did was take a picture of my office after work so that I could analyze the space at home. While brainstorming at home I remembered that I had seen a Buzzfeed post on decorating a cubicle. And while I’m not in a cubicle I thought I could draw inspiration from the article. I was immediately drawn to #2, which was a tassel garland. I thought a garland would really spruce up my desk. I looked at the link that Buzzfeed suggested to DIY the tassel garland. It was HGTV’s DIY post. While I loved the colors I wasn’t crazy about their DIY instructions. I felt like they left a lot of important steps out. When I started working on my garland I tried it at least 5 different ways. I wanted a smaller garland since my space was smaller.

Below are some pictures with the instructions on how to create a tissue paper tassel garland. If you have any questions share them below.

The three main supplies you will need: at least three kinds of tissue paper, and some kind of twine. Also not shown but require an honorable mention are scissors and a paper clip.

The first step is to lay a piece of tissue paper flat and cut along the middle vertically.

Once you have two pieces you set one aside.

Next you fold over the tissue paper (which is originally upside down)

You take that square and fold it in half horizontally.

Said square will now become a rectangle. (magic!)

Next you fold it over to the right so you get another square. (Scandalous!)

So here is where a paper clip comes in handy. It will help keep all the sheets from moving so much

The next step is to flip the square upside down. You'll see why below.

This is why! You'll start cutting some vertical lines up the square. You can move the paper clip as needed while you are cutting.

This is how the square will look like when it's all cut up. Don't worry about your lines not being perfect. They won't be noticeable later.

Once that is done you take the top and bottom sheets of tissue paper apart.

Now comes the fun part, folding up along the square along the middle.

This is how you loop it around.

This is how you loop it around. You do this with all the colors of the tassels that you want on your garland.

You loop all of the tassels on a garland and voila! You are done.

This is a great project not just for decorating  your office but also for birthday parties, bridal showers, even as a background for pictures. It definitely brightens a room up. Hope you enjoy!
