My yard and patio have really taken a beating from the last couple of winters we have had. I have learned that anything glass or ceramic should NOT be left out. I made the first mistake with some clay pots. I had no idea that the moisture in the potting soil would freeze and expand, braking my pots into pieces. I also didn’t know that the weight of snow and ice on my glass top patio furniture would break either.
Lesson learned but now what do I do about my table??
Since I have an unlimited supply of pallet wood I always start there. Can I use pallet wood?
Of course I can :)
I designed a pattern in my head and took some measurements of the table. I wanted an arrow pattern so I cut 10 pieces of pallet wood with a 45 degree angle on each end and 8″ long. I also cut a couple boards for my sides and ends. I laid the pattern out like a puzzle and marked where I needed to make extra cuts to make it square and tight. Next, I marked on the back of the boards where I needed to make pocket holes to hold it all together.
Yes, I could have just glued and tacked them on to another board but I love playing with my Kreg Jig, hehe.
After I made all my holes, 72 in 20 minutes to be exact, I started screwing each arrow together.
Once the arrows where made I sanded and stained them different colors to make the pattern stand out better. Once they were dry I screwed them together and and then attached the sides and ends.
I promise it looks like a lot more work than it was. The pocket holes made it so strong and tight.
The top was done!! Now all I needed to do was attach it to the table.
I drilled 6 holes around the top of the table frame with a drill bit made for cutting through metal and then laid it on top of the bottom of the table top. I screwed it on and painted a good coat of Thompson’s Water Sealer on it.
I LOVE how it turned out. I’m sure it could use some flowers or a centerpiece but I don’t want to cover up all my hard work :)
I am ready to RELAX and enjoy spring!!
