Maybe you’ve at least tried to make bread once in your life. But you’re probably still buying most of your bread. And I bet you don’t know how to make your own cleaning products ;) Now, during imp!act Geneva 2013, a team of young changemakers decided to change this situation and founded the project “Do it Yourself Geneva“. Their goal: organize workshops where people can teach or learn to do things which they would otherwise pay for and fix things would usually throw away.
Their very first workshops took place last month and offered 30 spots for people willing to learn how to make their own cleaning products and bread. euforia went to have a look and obtained exclusive permission to share their secret bread recipe with you.
Here are their instructions, step by step:
- Prepare a little bowl and fill it up to the middle with flour (whole grain or fine flour)
- Create a small ditch in the centre of the flour. Add a teaspoon of salt an another teaspoon of olive oli.
- Prepare a glass with lukewarm water. Mix it with a tablespoon (or a small pouch) of dried yeast.
- Start adding the yeast-water mix into the flour ditch, spoon by spoon. Cover the ditch regularly with flour and mix the mass. Continue adding yeast-water until the mass stops being dry and grainy and sticks well together.
- Knead the dough and form a ball.
- Allow the dough to rest for 20 minutes to 2 hours. If you want, you can knead some spices into it after 10 minutes.
- Put the dough into an oven (ca. 20 minutes, 220 degrees Celcius)
Enjoy the bread :) And if you would like to know about future “atéliers” of Do It Yourself Geneva, subscribe to their newsletter en envoyant un email à diy.geneva@gmail.com.
