$10 Chalkboard Wall Makeover and DIY crafts

Before

Before

As previously mentioned, I love my accent walls. Between sanding and painting cabinetry, backsplashes, and appliances, the wall on the far side of the kitchen was slowly transformed into a chalkboard to support my love of such things.

My childhood bedroom was half-painted in chalkboard paint (below the chair rail) and our new house was decidedly incomplete until I had another wall to scribble all over. It is a super simple way to transform your space and unleash your inner three-year-old creativity.

This makeover cost about $10 total. That’s it!

>Paint supplies already purchased for painting the rest of the house

>If you don’t have chalk on hand, you can buy a box on the cheap almost anywhere OR those awesome chalk pens from a craft store.

Frames > The frames were actually left behind by the previous owner. I took apart the frames (nails, wire, etc), removed the prints, hammered in saw tooth frame hangers (a couple dollars for 5) and hung the empty frames. I’ve also found great, inexpensive frames thrift shopping and even at the dollar store in a pinch.

> The previous homeowners even left the gorgeous mid-century hutch pictured on the right in the “After” photo.

After painting the wall with the Rust-Oleum paint, the border was drawn on using a yard stick. The furniture was put in place and all of the designs were drawn on before hanging the frames.

And for anyone who’s mildly curious about where the décor came from:

Pitcher, flowers, and salt and pepper shaker – Michaels

Cloth napkins – Fiesta

Placemats – Dollar Store

Tablecloth – Macy’s

Hanging bird – Hand painted by my husband in Mexico when he was little :)

Gold letters & Heart log – Handmade by my dad for my wedding using scrap cardboard, gold spray paint, and a strand of lights from my parent’s backyard
