mY CREAtiViTy SHrINe EXplainEd and DIY crafts

creativity shrine I have been feeling a bit bored lately so today I’ve decided to do something creative in order to get out of the rut. I grabbed Noah Scalin’s book called “Unstuck: 52 Ways to Get and Keep Your Creativity Flowing at Home, at Work and in Your Studio” and checked out some of the mini projects mentioned in it. I did a 10 minute project called Dada poetry and a one hour project called Creativity Shrine. It took me less than an hour (30 minutes) to arrange and document my creativity shrine because I already knew what things to put in it.

My creativity shrine consists of:

  • a fragrance oil burner I received as a gift a couple of years ago: I replaced the earth symbol on it with a Love Can Begin Here sticker, the story of which I mentioned in an earlier post. On top of it I placed a gift my cousin brought me from Spain: a wooden ball with an Indian elephant with its trunk pointing upwards engraved on it and a flower inside it

  • three ceramic pieces: a bird whistle and a tiny mug which I bought from a ceramic fair in Iaşi, the city where I spent my college years and a ceramic mărţişor

  • two little animals: a panda bear which came as a surprise inside a Kinder egg and a cow (also made from ceramic, with small feathers as hair) which I bought when I was in high school from an African art shop in my native town of Brăila

  • a book called “Caiet de desen” which translates as “a drawing notebook”, a mechanical pencil and a drawing I made back in 2006

  • the bottle of one of my favourite perfumes which I bought from the local The Body Shop store in Iaşi

  • my former mobile phone with which I used to take photographs

  • a stack of sticky notes in different colors and chalk which I use for creative purposes

  • a Rory’s Story Cubes “How to Play” booklet. I used the cubes last year to write stories after I played the game with a former friend of mine

  • a postcard from Denmark: I am a big fan of postcards

  • a cloth banner for the 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 days (432) movie

  • a paintbrush and vermilion red acrylic paint: I used to paint a lot when I was a child

  • an empty Guinness bottle because I enjoy their commercials and because Guinness is good for me

  • a CD of Urma: this band was introduced to us by one of our class mates during high school

  • a shell because it reminds me of the sea and the good time I had there

  • protection glasses for the solar eclipse of 1999

  • some tape I had around the house

So there you have it: my creativity shrine.

You can also do this project if you have some spare time.
