Operation: Clean Sneakers and DIY crafts

I finally got around to cleaning washing my sneakers.

I’ve had the blue and grey Free Run 5.0 since early 2014, and the black Flex Experience Run 2 just since last October. And I never used them outside of work or the gym. But as you can see, they both look like crap.

First thing I did was remove the pads and shoelaces to soak in water with laundry detergent. And then, using an old tooth brush and a cup of laundry detergent, I scrubbed both pairs over the sink until I was satisfied that all the gunk, dirt, and stains were out. Then I ran them in warm water.

I put each pair inside those mesh laundry bags so they don’t go clunking around in the washer and dryer. I used regular detergent with cold water, and set the washer in delicate mode. Before I started running the washer, I threw in a few towels so the shoes wouldn’t be tumbling all over themselves. I also tied the laces in knots to prevent them from tangling with each other.

When the load was ready for the dryer, I also just picked the delicate setting. The towels helped muffle the sounds of the shoes inside the dryer.

As you can see, I wasn’t really able to take the stains out of my shoes. But compared to what they looked like before I washed them, they looked a hundred times better.
