Why hello everyone! Happy Sunday! Pretty sad how fast this weekend end, did it feel like that for anyone else? Sigh, but its okay, because spring break is coming up very shortly!
In all honesty, I was very very skeptical when I first started doing this, since I have combination skin, really really dry in some places, but extremely oily in other parts, especially with the seasons changing, warmer temperatures, and moisture in the air, my oily skin is just going to get worse from here, I was thinking “Putting oil on my oily face? No way it is going to work!” , but I was wrong.
What is oil cleansing?
Oil cleansing is basically mixing some natural oils in a specific combination to cleanse the skin of dirt, grime, and whatever has been sitting on your face that day, including makeup. Doing so will help balance out the oils of the face, so our skin doesn’t have to go into over drive and produce more oils than necessary.
This also is so so gentle on your skin, so if you have sensitive skin like most people out there, this will be great for you. This method is much more moisturizing and has so many more nutrients than your average face cleanser, leaving you with soft, glowing skin.
I know, I know, you’re still thinking, this is absolutely bizarre, oil on oil? How could this EVER work? Acne.org explains how this works, and the benefits of the oil cleansing method:
“Oil dissolves oil. One of the most basic principals of chemistry is that “like dissolves like.” The best way to dissolve a non-polar solvent like sebum/oil, is by using another non-polar solvent similar in composition: Other oils. By using the right oils, you can cleanse your pores of dirt and bacteria naturally, gently and effectively, while replacing the dirty oil with beneficial ones extracted from natural botanical, vegetables and fruit that heal, protect and nourish your skin. When done properly and consistently, the OCM can clear the skin from issues like oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, blackheads, whiteheads and other problems caused by mild to moderate acne–while leaving your skin healthy, balanced and properly moisturized.”
What You Will Need:
Obviously, you will need a couple natural oils, and a washcloth!
Most oils commonly used Castor oil, and Olive oil, but you can use many, many different natural oils. Naturally, Castor oil is an astringent, so it pulls out all of those impurities, nut never use it undiluted, always add at least twice the amount of another oil along with it.
Another oil that is great to use is coconut oil, since it has antibacterial and anti-fungal, great for acne and eczema. It is packed full of antioxidants, great for fine line and wrinkles, and it is absolutely great for moisturizing.
What to Do:
Step #1: I personally like to use a makeup wipe before I start, just to get some of the makeup off, then I massage the oil into my skin for about 1-2 minutes, and let it sit for roughly 30 seconds.
Step #2: Apply a warm, a bit warmer than what you would wash your face with, washcloth to the face and let it sit for 15-30 minutes.
Step #3: Lightly remove with the wash clothes, DO NOT SCRUB! Be gentle when removing!
As an extra step, if you don’t feel that you got it all off, splash warm water over your face to remove the excess oil!
I highly recommend this method of cleaning the face! Have any of you tried this? If so let me know what you think of it!
