Water Sensory Play and DIY crafts

I hate doing the laundry. I hate it so very much. But it needs to be done and I’m in charge of doing it. UGH! What I especially hate is to fold and keep it all. SUCH A PAIN!!!! Well, the other day when I had a huge mountain of laundry to fold, I decided to set up a Water Sensory Play table for my daughter so that wouldn’t have to suffer from the boredom I was about to endure. She sat across from me and played for a good 2 hours (yes, it takes me that long to fold and keep our laundry. Shut up).

I got this idea from one of the activity stations set up at the weekly parent-child playgroup we attend together, and decided that it was definitely easy enough to recreate at home.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Large plastic tub or bowl

Water

Food colouring

Spoon/ Scooper

Floaty toys

Sponge

Small containers/ cups

Bath towel

Water Sensory Play It’s good to have a spoon and smaller containers for them to scoop up the water and work on their fine motor skills. The sponge was a big hit as well because she enjoyed the squeezing action. The floaty toys seemed to be more for decorative purposes, but she did like “giving them a bath” at one point.

Remember to cover your table top with a bath towel to soak up any splashes (because there definitely will be many!), and it also helps make clean-up easier later on. She managed to somehow finish all the water and I had to top it up towards the end (plus change her into some dry clothes afterwards!).

The food dye added to the water is also just a visual treat, and it’s better if you can use clear smaller containers inside the tub so that when your little ones scoop up water, they can actually see through it.

You can also add heavier items that sink to the bottom of the tub like smooth stones, flat marbles, seashells, so that your child can reach down to grab them as well as drop them into the water and watch them slowly sink to the bottom.

A good quiet indoor activity, perfect for a rainy/ hazy day, or when you just need to get some things done around the house!

*Important Note: Please supervise your kids at all times when they are playing with water.
