Day 53 - A Taste of Spring Tea Towel

Hello Yearlings!

Today has been a day of terrible icy weather and staying inside doing a whole lot of nothing. Apparently the whole week is going to be like this. I’m not looking forward to it, but I actually went to the gym and worked out today just to have something to do that wasn’t in my apartment. I also found that I really wanted to do something that would lift my spirits and help me to get over these bad weather blues.

I am absolutely desperate for a peek of spring and since we clearly won’t be getting one any time soon I decided to make my own. I don’t have a lot of experience with embroidery and everything I know is basically self taught or from a book so please excuse my obvious lack of technique. I’m currently a work in progress.

The Ingredients.

Match up your threads to your buttons, as close as you can at least.

Then just go ahead and start stitching!

I tried to use a different stitch for each of the colors.

I tried to make it look really irregular, like a real garden.

I just love the way that it turned out!

You can do it all the way across the edge if you want, but I loved the idea of having a tiny pop of color in the corner that looked like a little garden.

Ingredients:

Cotton Tea Towel

Embroidery Hoop

Flower Buttons, in several different colors

Embroidery Floss, in as many colors as you have different types of flowers

It was pretty surprisingly hard to match the colors of thread to the colors of the flowers. I think it turned out alright, but I had to use what I had on hand and the flowers were surprisingly hard to match. The only one that I had to approximate on was the blue, other than that I feel like the matches are pretty close. However, if you’re doing this at home you don’t have to match them at all. Mix it up! Make a purple stem for the blue flower or a pink stem for the yellow. Either way it’s going to turn out really cute!

Lots of Love,

Maya
