So I found this alternative technique to use instead of wax batik (as you know melted wax is incredibly messy and difficult to get rid of) that uses flour and water. I’ve already done one layer on this piece that was a 1:1 mix of flour and water, the mixture was a bit runny and caused water marks around the outside. The new mix is more of a 4:1 mix, it’s much sturdier and easy to paint on , but I guess the proof will be when I paint on the fabric paint and then try to scrape it off!
I’m experimenting with surface designs as part of a commission for a cathedral window cushion for a relative, so don’t be shy if you’re interested in one yourself!
