TBR: TO READ, BUT WHAT TO READ… THAT IS THE QUESTION and DIY crafts

Whether tis better to choose based on proximity or follow your gut and delve into a story you’ve loved before.

I am the Queen of Struggle Town when it comes to choosing what book I want to read next. I spend hours, sometimes days, even months trying to choose my next book.

Then, once I do choose, you bet your bottom dollar I will be second guessing myself at least 100 pages into whichever story I’ve plucked off my over packed shelves.

Honestly, sometimes I feel that my books would be put to better use if I built a fort around myself with them and spent my time in their crying and eating porridge, questioning how everything went so wrong. When did I stop being able to make decisions?!

And then it hit me.

A TBR JAR.

(This is mine.)

I’d read about them, seen Booktubers talk about them, gazed longingly at pictures of them on the internet and then decided it’s time to make my own, as daunting as the task may seem. I ventured out to Kmart and The Reject Shop, picked up a nice big jar and some coloured paper and got to making my jar. Now, when I finish one book I get to pop my hand in my TBR jar and pluck out a random book. Honestly, it feels like I’m winning something every time!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed I definitely suggest you make your own! Whether it’s simple, like mine, or super creative. I plan on using my ‘read’ strips to make a collage of all the books I’ve read this year because like any book lover, I feel there’s no more accomplished feeling than accumulating a lot of the same thing!

I’ll leave you with my TBR jar rules, which I feel makes the experience more effective:

  1. Read what you pick out, even if it’s slow going or not what you expected.

  2. Put in those books you’ve been putting off for ages.

  3. Don’t cheat and try to pick a specific book – what you’re meant to read will come to you!

  4. ENJOY YOURSELF! It should be fun, not daunting, if you find something you want to read between jar picks, go for it!

Happy reading!

What’s your latest pick?
