Bear Paw Ice Scraper Glove Tutorial and DIY crafts

image

Way back around Christmas time, I found what I thought was the most amazing but practical gag gift ever at Bed Bath: a big furry glove fitted around an ice scraper to keep you warm on those awful mornings when you have to clear the snow off your car before heading into work. I stood 30 min in line just to buy it and to my delight, the recipient of it thought it was just as hilarious as I did. I’d been waiting since then, December, to make my own and while organizing my sewing space last night, I found the perfect fleece scraps to do it with.

You will need:

– Fleece

– Small scrap of contrasting cotton/canvas (preferably something stiffer than fleece)

– Stuffing

– Ice scraper

Steps:

1. I do not have an ice scraper right now (I know, dumb move) so I used the Roku remote to help me with the concept. Pretend the remote is the handle of the scraper. With fabric right sides together, lay your ice scraper up to the top edge of the fabric.

2. Trace around the remote and at the bottom draw a rough glove shape. Make sure it can fit your hand with plenty of room. I made mine a little too snug.

3. Cut a paw shape out of the contrasting fabric and position on the right side of one of the glove shapes. Pin them in place and use a zigzag stitch to tack them down.

4. Put the two glove shapes right sides together and sew all the way around, leaving the bottom open for your hand. When you flip it right side out, it should look like this.

5. Push the top piece into the glove like so.

6. Now cut out two pieces of fleece that are just a little smaller than this shape.

7. Sew the two new pieces together leaving an opening at the top.

8. Now taking the glove with the paw shape on it, gently tug the rectangular piece down and fit it into the opening of the two pieces you just sewed together.

9. Handstitch the opening to the tube and be careful not to stitch the tube shut. That needs to be able to wrap around the ice scraper handle. When finished, pull the paw glove over the inner glove and stuff in between the two layers. Slip stitch the bottom closed.

Tada!

It’s a fun, quick project that can be finished in a few hours but save you some pain during the winter time. If you do try it, let me know if you have any questions!
