I made a simple and quick cover for my vintage vinyl ottoman. As much as I love the heavy old thing the electrifying shock of teal just did not suit the rest of my lounge room space, but I wanted to keep it because it’s such a useful size to plonk down on when catching a bit of tv or playing with my dog Bodo.

I chose a simple grey pelt of synthetic felt for the covering, which was just something I had on hand, and thankfully the dimensions were perfect, with only the smallest of off cuts. I cut the sections required and did the most basic of hem stitches and in 20 minutes I had updated my ottoman to a more modern style. The best thing about this project is that underneath my ottoman remains in its original vintage form and the cover not only updates the look of the piece but also protects it from further wear and tear.

I’m so happy with the way it looks.
