I have a love hate relationship with Sunday. Always have had. When I was kid I found it the most boring day of the week – shops were not open on Sundays when I was very young. We would either lie around the house bored all day, or else go on a Sunday drive. Sunday drives were a big thing in Ireland. Sometimes they were fun, we would get treats and go somewhere cool and life was good. Other days, they were boring as all hell and your parents would take you off to some furniture warehouse, a ninety minute drive away, to look at a bedside locker and there you would see tones of other bored ten year olds sitting on curtain patterned couches waiting impatiently for their parents – and Sunday – to be done.
My relationship with God’s day has remained the same. Some Sunday’s are great – a nice brunch, a nice walk, maybe some shopping – and some, like today, are boring. I am facing into the mundane task of sorting out tones of clothes, putting boxes in my attic, painting walls and general DIY stuff #notinthemood.
