I’m chugging along with our coastal inspired guest bath. Things are slowly happening in there and I’ll be thrilled once I can show you the final result. So far I’m pretty excited with how its all coming together.
I thought I would show you a easy little project I pulled together that was super budget friendly.
Cute right?
Here are the items you will need.
Glass jars in various sizes – Mine are from Ikea but Mason jars work great too!
Sand – Mine came from Michael’s but if you live near a beach, lake or park you can get this for free
Starfish (real or fake) and shells – Purchased mine at Michael’s and the dollar store
Twine – Massive roll at Walmart for $3
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Candles that will fit in your jars
First up. Toss the lids of you jars. Or keep them. Whatever makes you happy.
Wrap the twine under the lid a few times. I did mine 6-7 times.
End with a single knot.
Now make another knot but don’t pull it tight. Slip in an arm of your starfish and place a small dab of hot glue between the knot and the starfish arm. I will admit here I was very sad for a moment thinking of these poor dead little starfish, then i realized how cute it was looking and got over it.
Now pull the knot tight (but not so tight you break the poor starfish!)
I added a large and small start fish to my largest jar for depth. I just glued the little one on before pulling the knot tight around both starfish.
Snip the ends of our twine at whatever lenght you prefer. Or tie a floppy bow. Its your jar, go crazy!
Next I added some sand into the bottom of the jar and put my candle inside. I then dropped a few small seashells and starfish around the bottom.
And viola! Super cute and super cheap, easy coastal candle holders.
What do you think? Does the idea of dead starfish freak you out too much to make this? Or would you totally put these in your house? Clearly I’m not that freaked out cause I’m totally putting them in my house.
