The craft of Banarasi handloom weaving - Part 1 - Weft

You think you’ve seen everything. And then this happens.


I had done my research on how the Banarasi handloom works, the process and the technique involved. But when I finally saw one, I was astounded. It made no sense. How did they manage to make all those threads come together?


A very smart analogy my father used was – It’s like a spider’s web. Great Scott. It was that and more.

The weft is the thread that makes the design in the fabric.
