DIY hair mask and DIY crafts

As someone who changes their hair colour every month or so, its become increasingly important to look after my tresses. My hair’s been bleached and coloured more times than I can count and I rely on hair masks at least every other week to keep my hair soft and healthy. I use in shower masks pretty much every time I wash my hair (around once a week) but I feel like the best way to get proper nourishment is to use a pre wash mask normally overnight. Now theres loads of these kinds of things on the market but if you look at the ingredients theres normally silicones and alcohol pretty high up and those aren’t the kinds of things I want my hair soaking in. DIY masks are also a lot more cost effective, buying these ingredients would probably cost around £20 but these will be enough to last you around a year, depending on your hair length. If you work out cost per use, or even cost per ml this is way less than shop bought masks, and in my opinion a lot more effective.

So heres the recipe I use, I started out just using coconut oil and gradually added more and more ingredients till I got to this current combination. I just use equal parts of these in a small bowl or pot and just microwave it all together for 30 seconds or so and slather it all over my hair. I use:

  • Coconut oil

  • Almond oil

  • Shea butter

  • Castor oil

  • Glycerin (available from most pharmacies)

The oils are pretty much all available from health shops like Holland and Barrat or I generally pick mine up online, for around £3-£4 each. Then I just leave this on for as long as possible, normally overnight and wash it out using my normal shampoo and conditioner. This obviously has no preservatives so I wouldn’t advise mixing up more than one or two uses at a time. This mask just leaves my hair super soft and hydrated and using this regularly has really improved the condition of my hair over time. What’s your favourite hair treatments?
