Stripped, Buffed and Polished and DIY crafts

Middle Street 8x11 - Page 002

When we first looked at the floors in the living room we were a little scared that the original hardwood flooring couldn’t be saved. Thankfully we have a really amazing friend who happens to own his own flooring company! It was a good excuse to get him to come up for a visit and check out the new house. He reassured us he could resurrect the floors and boy was he right! He pays so much attention to details and is meticulous in everything he does- if you live in North Florida and need hardwood flooring give him a call!!!!

The other thing that had to get done is to remove one of the entrances to the Master Bedroom. Dad closed that right up, it was interesting to see inside these old walls. When you come up the stairs from the entry below you are confronted with an awkward closed in hallway and entry to the living room. Way too many doors and walls for my liking. We removed both doors and the wall! It opened it up so nicely, however, where the wall was there was no flooring. Luckily, we already had ripped up the ugly vinyl flooring in the bathroom and discovered Middle Street 8x11 - Page 003some usable wood planks! Mike and dad were able to take up those planks and insert them into the missing wall space, buff them out and refinish them with the rest of the room. I swear you can’t tell there was ever a wall there!

We would still like to open up the room a little more, however we’ll have to tackle the 1950’s electrical box first. Plans for that fireplace wall include: beadboard backing on the whole wall, cover top (very uneven and crooked) fireplace top, cleaning and restaining the brick and building in all white book case and shelves on either side of fireplace.

Here’s a link to my “living room” Pinterest page, come see my desires for this space.
